100 Days Of Awe: Day Eighteen – Zonked In Paradise

Day 18: Zonked In Paradise

Caught in the middle of the week, between two weekends of intuitive training and momentarily displaced from my home by visitors I am staying with a friend in Brixton, South West London.  I am unhooked from my routine.  Unhinged from the usual what I am experiencing is blurred and surreal.  The best I can do is stop, stay, be and connect with my friend Joanne who is taking a rare day off from her high powered IT job in the city.  We luxuriate in the intense and unexpected heat trapped in the Italianate portical of her outer city garden, we potter down Clapham High Street sustained by the deliciousness of a Greiggs sausage roll – each.  We finish off our evening gorging in Curry Paradise with Henry, who heads a charity dedicated to extending the reach and impact of British orchestras. Poppadums and chutneys. channa saag (chickpeas & spinach), brinjal (auberine), lemon & pilau rice, garlic and peshwari naan, lamb pasanda, King prawn pathai all washed down with a couple of bottles of chocolatey Uruguyan red wine.  I am a stuffed parathai, leaden, somnolent zonked in digestive labour, agawp like a guppy.  Awed by fuzziness.

100 Days of Awe is a playful project I set up to bring my attention to awe in my daily life. I see awe as wonder, a mixture of amazement and respect.  I expect the experience of awe to be about perception shifting awareness and that demands a reframing of some sort.  I am excited to see what will awe me on this journey.
