100 Days of Awe: Day Twelve – Looking Up

Day 12: Looking Up

IMAG3742I was lying down in my yoga class and seeing the world outside the window from a different perspective.  I am looking at a beautiful corner building, petticoat curtains in the window, coy and demure, some offices perhaps some flats, but then I spy a sign of another nature.  Like catching the glimpse of a tattoo under the tresses of a well dressed business woman I see around the roof top architrave the words Bramley Arms – standing proud.

A little rooting on the internet reveals that the Bramley Arms pub was closed in the 1980’s, on the boundary of the famous republic of Frestonia that attempted to cede from the UK in 1977, Heathcote Williams, long time conjuror, sometime scuptor and author of the polemic Whale Nation was ambassador to Great Britian and actor David Rappaport it’s foreign minister.  I am sure the walls of the pub are layered with whispers of politics and anarchy but it’s place in history is in a more flighty capacity as part of Hollywood W11 – a set in Quadrophenia and The Lavender Hill Mob among others.

100 Days of Awe is a playful project I set up to bring my attention to awe in my daily life. I see awe as wonder, a mixture of amazement and respect.  I expect the experience of awe to be about perception shifting awareness and that demands a reframing of some sort.  I am excited to see what will awe me on this journey.
