100 Days Of Awe: Day Thirty – I Love The Rain Against My Window

Day 30: I Love The Rain On My Window

IMAG3998Creating such sweet memories!  Unlike Tina Turner, The Hollies and Toots Hibbert who all write about the pain of sweet memories and the loss of love.  Spring is unfurling in fits and starts, last week saw a welt of warmth which has over the weekend has been pushed out of town by a grey belly sky leaking tears.  I am deep in unravelling the technical details of my SatNav4TheSoul app toolbox, the spirit of it has been bubbling to the surface disregarding the calendar call for Easter celebrations.  The weather like a warm wrap holding me in my treehouse home, the raindrops smudging my view of verdant green Spring out my window.  My moment of awe, capturing my everyday view and  making it magic with a little help from Picasa.

100 Days of Awe is a playful project I set up to bring my attention to awe in my daily life. I see awe as wonder, a mixture of amazement and respect.  I expect the experience of awe to be about perception shifting awareness and that demands a reframing of some sort.  I am excited to see what will awe me on this journey.

100 Days Of Awe: Day Twenty Nine – Adventure

Day 29: AdventureIMAG3989When things are going down I have a little secret habit of buying a lottery ticket.  It salves my wound of feeling powerless in the world. At one time I had a regular subscription set up to nurse the supperating hole it created but a wise friend who was helping me with my finances quite rightly pointed out that it was creating a different kind of leakage.  So with the exception of feast days and special occasions I dont buy lottery tickets anymore.  One could argue that yesterday, the eve of Easter was a feast day, but that is not what prompted me to splash out rather it was an action from an intuitive coaching session.  An action so clear and yet so simple, it brought up a rush of feelings and resistance.  I didnt want to go out in the cold evening air and I only had £1.63 in my wallet and just one entry would cost me all of £2 but I have learnt the power of taking intuitive action.

Normally I ask for a lucky dip but in the shop it was obvious that I had to choose the numbers.  Somewhere inside me a headless chicken was let loose; flushing out the thought that I could revel in my expertise if I won but would only have myself to blame if I didnt.  3 voided entry forms later I let go of my rational mind and submitted a selection with trepidation.  As soon as I saw I had picked 3 numbers between 20 and 30 I felt as if I had put all of my eggs in the one basket failing to spread my risk.  This morning I discovered that no only did I fail to nail one of the numbers but that the winning selection had 3 numbers between 30 and 40.

This morning I was also prompted to look up the word ADVENTURE.  I aspire to advenure, I want it to be part of my life and my business.  I have a sense and an essence of it, it speaks to me of travel, new horizons, pioneering, the unexpected.  What I had not appreciated is that the word adventure comes from the middle English aventure meaning to risk the loss of.   The lottery ticket was a mini experience of being an adventurer, my risk was low but it revealed the machinations of my unconscious mind.  It was an action that allowed me to embrace the reality of loss and separate myself from the meaning I make up about it.  A reminder that I only receive life when I step into it.  In that space I may win some, I may loose some, failure is inherent but I dont have to buy into the suffering that it means anything about me.  This is knowledge that allows me to move through failures, loss, f*&kups, to let things go from my sub conscious mind clearing the way to step into life again and again.

100 Days Of Awe: Day Thirty Five – Layers Of Love = Magic

Day 35: Layers Of Love = MagicimageSaturday April 26th 2014 was D day for my friends Rachel and Scotty.  Many moons ago they decided they wanted to celebrate their wedding in a field, deeply connected to nature between the earth and the stars.  They dropped in again and again to the vision of what they would love and layer by layer joining with family and friends they created the reality that greeted us, their evening guests, in the depths of bucolic Staffordshire; yards of hand stitched bunting fluttering in the breeze, a wending path of fragrant straw across a well watered tapestry of field greens to a ceremonial double tipi decked out in earthy sprays of wild flowers, cosy with reindeer skins and lovingly created cushions and table decorations.  Warmed by happy hearts and a well stocked fire pit we were transported to a tribal soul where we raised our glasses and boogied into the night before being ferryed back to 21st century reality in a magic old fashioned double decker buses.  A beautiful reminder of the creative power of dancing spirits in love and collaboration.

100 Days Of Awe: Day Thirty Four – Breadcrumbs In The Bath

Day 34: Breadcrumbs In The BathIMAG4038I may not have mentioned but I have become a bit of a juicing convert.  Not in an evangelic way I assure you.  It was something that came to me after Christmas 2013.  I just wanted to step away from consumption.  I tried 5 days and then discovered that Jason Vale Juicemaster was running a 5 day challenge the following week so I tried that too.  Then I was on the slippery slope. I love how it simplified my life, relieved my digestive system and was gentle on my pocket.  I got the bright idea that I would celebrate this year by doing 52 days of juicing before my 53rd birthday in July.  I have just completed day 38, in fact I may well be on day 45 but I have lost count.  I am having at least one if not two juices a day and keep eating and alcohol to those evenings when I am invited out.  I am in da groove.  And this morning there it was – a little squeak of a request, a please may I have a bacon and egg sarnie and while you are at it can we have a bath too.  What could I do but say yes.  And what a beautiful way to slide into the day – bacon, egg and mustard sarnies on healthy gluten free bread with a big mug of expresso coffee in my New York state of mind Dean & Deluca mug.  I have to admit despite my passion for juicing I have not been able to let go of my daily coffee shot.  By 4pm I was craving a juice again!

100 Days Of Awe: Day Twenty Eight – Anthromorphic Resonance

Day 28: Anthromorphic Resonance

IMAG3985Little Wormwood Scrubs, London, UK

I went for a walk yesterday and I saw this tree; its gnarled, carbuncular trunk capitvatingly ugly, repelling and visceral.  Like the stripped back view of skeletal musculature.  Fixed and solid yet equally flowing and alive with cellular energy pushing out its imprint into the world.  My heart feels raw and vulnerable.

100 Days Of Awe: Day Twenty Seven – Blinded By The Light

Day 27:  Blinded By The Light

IMAG3938‘You always have a choice to pay attention and take an unfamiliar and perhaps risky path.  Likewise you can choose to not pay attention and stay with the version of your life implanted in you by familial and cultural influence dictating precisely what your limitations and aspirations ought to be.’ In his new book I See Clearly Now Dr Dyer invites us to pay closer attention to what and who shows up in our lives and to be willing to listen carefully to any inclination we might have an act accordingly.

In the past few days a fragment of poetry has been rattling around in my  brain – ‘through a chink too wide comes in no wonder’ – a spewed up gobbet from my unconscious it cannot escape attention after the Alchemy 4 Success immersion earlier in the week.  The line is from Advent by the Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh.  A poem that espouses self-denial to shock us back to innocence and see the world with fresh eyes.  Seeing the world with fresh eyes is what alchemy is all about but I realise that if this fragment is true for me then I can only experience wonder if I stay in the dark peering at life through narrow chinks.  Seeing it like this I am aware that I cannot be in life and fully immersed in it if this is my underlying assumption.  I am compelled to tear the curtains open but hesitate because of my fear of being blinded by the light.  In the moment of hesitation I realise that it doesnt have to be one or the other.  I can just step up to and into life.

By a strange co-incidence Patrick Kavanagh grew up in Inniskeen on the ‘stony grey soil of Monaghan‘ a next door neighbour of John Woods my great grandfather.

100 Days Of Awe: Day Twenty Six – Carry On Alchemy

Day 26: Carry On Alchemy

IMAG3978100% Chocolate Brownie

The day after the finale of our Alchemy 4 Success intensive.  There is a mind expanding silence in this space of assimilation.  Each of us silently sliding back into the orbits of our lives but not the same as when we left.  I want to be alert and aware, conscious and cognizant; assidiously observing what is coming up for me as I re enter the cacophony of life, to see the flickering shadows of the concepts and definitions I project on to the wall of the world knowing they are not true and then proactively switch the power in my subconscious mind.  The intention is to embody the practise of alchemy and master the art of conscious creation.

When I step beyond the veil I can delight in what captures my innocent eye, often it is the simplest of things like the wrapper of this raw chocolate brownie, drawing me into blue sky and sea salt.  I savour and taste its richness gliding deliciously out of Brighton on its nourishment quietly observing the spirit level of power, and bouncing over the glitches of irritation and annoyance that pick up charge as I get closer to London.  I want the rhythm of the wheels on the track to tattoo their message on my soul ‘carry on alchemy, carry on alchemy, carry on alchemy…..’

100 Days Of Awe: Day – Twenty Five – Bye Bye Edenbridge

Day 25: Bye Bye EdenbridgeIMAG3893The final day of Alchemy 4 Success with William Whitecloud at Commonwork organic farm, Bore Place, Edenbridge, Kent and we are embracing our stories, manifesting synergy and finding out the true purpose and power of vulnerability.  It is a choca block day pierced with the intensity.  The intensity of peeling away personal layers and of bracing ourselves for a return to civilisation.  Commonwork has proved to be a truly magical backdrop for the work we have been doing.  In practical terms it is only a matter of miles from the M25 and the tight coil of urban London but in spiritual terms it is place that can only be found through the umblical twist and turns of cow paths that slip slide you over the lip of an adjacent dimension.   Five days feels like five minutes. We are already saying goodbye to this shamanic land but now without embodying just a little of its living, breathing, organic, earthy vibration.

100 Days Of Awe: Day Twenty Four – The Sacrifice Of The Humble Potato

Day 24: The Sacrifice of The Humble Potato

IMAG3918Day 4 of Alchemy 4 Success from Commonworks organic farm, Bore Place, Edenbridge, Kent.   William Whitecloud continues to reveal alchemical tools for our kit bags.  There is an ease and a simplicity to these tools that belie their power and the focus that is required to wield them.  These are tools that change the lead of our egos to the gold of our hearts but in very practical terms deliver a tangible reality and end results that are aligned with our souls.  We are learning that our concept of life, our perception is a defense against the truth which keeps us separate from our hearts and what we love.  Like the mists of Avalon perception is pervasive, invasive, seductive and delusional, it is the water we swim in, everywhere and invisible to us.  It is futile to try and des rid of the mists we can but orientate in the dark to the beacons of our true end results of our souls.  We are learning how to create and discern true end results from false end results and with the help of a straw and a potato we experience a microcosm of learning.

Try this for yourself – get a big fat raw potato and a plastic straw.  Now IMAGINE the straw through the potato – not so much the process of putting the straw through the potato but the fact that it is already there.  Keep imagining this and take the obvious action to make this into a reality.  Could you do it?  If not what did you experience while you were trying and afterwards? Observe your thoughts and now REIMAGINE the straw through the potato.  You may need to go around a few times to work your imagination muscle but it is possible to do this.  The learning on the way will show you  how you approach creating the things you love in your life.  Do you just fantasise and not actually go for them?  Do you get angry and give you, do you get determined and try harder?  Remember this is an exercise in IMAGINING the end result has already happened and keep imagining it until you have take the action to make that happen.  There are no other tricks to this.

100 Days Of Awe: Day Twenty Three – The Dark Side Of My Heart

Day 23: The Dark Side Of My Heart

IMAG3897My Shadow on The Pond, Bore Place

Day 3 of Alchemy 4 Success with William Whitecloud at Commonwork organic farm, Bore Place, Edenbridge, Kent and we are exploring the raw material of alchemy; the negredo, the lead, our egos.  Plato said that humans sit around in a cave with their backs to the fire mistaking themselves for the shadows on the walls.  We are looking at the distinction between this shadow – the projection our belief system on to life so that we can be oriented and know what life is about – and the dark side of our hearts which reflects the aspects of ourselves that MUST NOT exist in the world, the parts of us that threaten our viability.  Two aspects of ourselves which limit and sabotage our ability to create if we are not aware of them but which become the lead which we can transform to gold.

We continue to apply intuitive tools to peel away the layers of the onion. My shadow self carrys a burden of guilt and shame coupled with an innate sense of panic as I feel I dont have the resources or capability to deal with life.  My dark side is Thor the warrior, an Indian War Chief with a shamanic heart and a lust for life and the truth, who takes no prisoners, who can be present with all that life is, in the mystery and the uncertainty of it, with the rawness of life and death. It is awesome and beautiful but I can see how I avoid to stand in life in that way, claiming my power makes me my own authority.  Then I have accept full responsibility for my actions and what I create as well as running the risk not getting out alive.  Which of course is the ultimate delusion.
